Patricia Patterson

Patterson’s paintings create narratives with collected objects, collective memory, and a nod to art history. While the objects are chosen for their color, their placement results in relationships that suggest complex human relationships, archetypes and messages. The series was created in Mexico City and many of the rich cultural traditions of Mexico can be seen in the work.

Patterson, born in Illinois, is currently the Chair of Fine Arts at Loyola Academy. She worked and painted in Mexico City for the last 25 years and has a new studio in Evanston.

Opening Reception: Sunday April 7, 2 – 4 PM
Exhibition: March 30 – April 27 2024

Angela McElwain & Sheryl Nieman

Opening Reception: Sunday, March 10 | 2 – 4 PM
Exhibition: March 1 to March 28

Angela A. McElwain is a multi-media artist whose studio is in Chicago. Her media includes paintings, drawings, sculptures, and, recently, graphic novels. She was an Artist in Residence in Chicago when she created and installed a series of interior murals for the Logan Square Library. The selected work is from Angela McElwain’s NAL (Not A Landscape) Series. The work is drawn from real places which are then reimagined with color, texture, and atmosphere creating a sensation, mood or energy. No landscape exists here except for the one implied in the imagination.

Sheryl Nieman is a painter working in oils and acrylics. Her canvases are chosen to compliment the story being told and have varied from linen, muslin, board, and glass to walls, ceilings, floors, and objects. Her current style of painting has an obvious division of space, no longer a dash or a dot but a fragmentation using line and flow to divide areas of color. The effects of color and light are examined and explored to create the appropriate mood of the story.

Amber Keene

Amber Keene is an art teacher in Northbrook. Her background includes a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in Art Education From University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and a Master’s of Fine Arts in Art Education from University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.

“I am in constant awe of the beauty that can be found in this world we live in. As an artist I try to capture that feeling of inspiration, using oils and a mixed media approach. My landscape paintings are a result of my travels in the U.S. and abroad and the pieces in my self-portrait series consist of resin, oils, and collaged images from nature. The photo portraits were taken by photographer Bill Furlong, resulting in a beautiful collaboration between two artists.”

Exhibition | February 6 – February 29, 2024

Gallery Hours | Tuesday – Friday 10 AM – 5 PM | Saturday 10 AM – 1 PM

The Center plays host to gallery shows, provides year-round art classes, and offers lectures and workshops. The Gallery is named after local artist and community advocate, Leslie Wolfe, who was dedicated to the arts and artists. Her passion is reflected in the selection of emerging and established artists who are selected to exhibit.

Community Service/Migrant Support

The Old Town Triangle Association is continuing to work to support Migrants and others in need. Working with Ascension Church at LaSalle and Elm, we are providing new and lightly worn winter clothing that is available at their “free store” for those in need. They can always use more help.

An Ad-Hoc Committee is helping to find ways that Old Town neighbors can best assist those in need. Other options are being brought to our attention and we will be reaching out for more help soon. There are a number of groups that are located very near to the Triangle and we want to make sure that our efforts will make a difference.

The Community Service Committee has not forgotten our local public servants who go above and beyond for us every day. A lunch for the 18th District Police officers was held on November 17th before the start of the holiday season, where officers take on extra shifts to manage high-profile events. We also dropped off cookies to both of our local Fire Stations to acknowledge the loss of their colleague and friend, Drew Price.

Reach out to the Committee at service@oldtowntriangle.com to assist in any of these activities.

We need your continued support for some needs that have been identified.

  • Old suitcaseswheeled cases are easier for everyone.
  • There is a need for coats, boots and shoes. Not necessarily new but in decent shape. No dress shoes or heels. Athletic shoes, comfortable shoes, warm boots – for adults and children. Socks and underwear must be new but are also needed.
  • Men will wear jeans or sweats but no dress pants.
  • Women also prefer athletic type clothing (leggings, sweats, etc.). No blouses, skirts or dresses.
  • Small, stuffed animals (please no large items).
  • Pots & pans and other items for those who are finding shelter are also appreciated.

If you are unable to donate items but would still like to contribute, you can make a donation by clicking here.

Laundry costs are high – we are attempting to offer cleaning of clothing and bedding to the migrants. One family for one week (about 45 lbs.- everything has been wet lately) costs about $40. Your donation of $20 or more in the Laundry section will help us to meet these needs. We can still use donations to help pay for the laundry services that were provided.

Note: donations to the Old Town Triangle Association are tax-deductible to the amount allowed by law (OTTA is a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit organization).

Thank you – in advance for your assistance. Please contact the committee at service@oldtowntriangle.com for any additional information.
