The Old Town Triangle Association will be working with the 18th District Police – Migrant Support Team to provide meals for the migrants currently staying at the Station. We will be working as a community to pack bagged lunches that we will deliver on alternating Wednesdays through November 1, 2023. This is a great, easy way to get involved and help our community.
Here’s how you can get involved:
WHAT SHOULD I BRING?:
Please bring any of the following items, with enough to feed at least 10 people. (So 10 bags of chips, 10 eggs, etc.)
• Lunch meat sandwich on white or whole wheat bread/roll, cheese is optional but always a nice addition (no condiments); please wrap the sandwich or place them in a separate baggie.
• Hard-boiled eggs (please be sure to boil the eggs thoroughly)
• Small bags of potato chips or pretzels (or something similar. No nuts, please) • Servings of soft fruits (i.e. orange, banana, grapes)• Individually packaged desserts (i.e. cookie, candy bar)
• Napkins• Beverages are optional as there is bottled water in the station (i.e. juice box, can of soda, or small water/sport drink) Due to lack of storage space, please keep beverage size under 12 oz
WHAT KIND OF BAG SHOULD I USE?
Due to storage constraints, it is ideal for the lunches to be packed in a gallon-sized plastic bag (like Ziploc’s). Or, you are welcome to use “traditional” plastic grocery bags.
WHERE/WHEN DO I DROP OFF THE LUNCHES?
Drop off will be at the Old Town Triangle Association on Wednesdays, starting at 9 AM and ending at 11 AM.
With everyone working together, we are hoping to be able to provide lunches to the estimated 100 migrants.
HOW ELSE CAN I HELP?
If you are unable to drop off food but would still like to contribute, you can make a donation by clicking here. Volunteers are needed during the hours of the drop off (9 – 11 AM) to help bag lunches for delivery.
Thank you – in advance for your assistance.
