Drawing and Painting

Portraiture is the primary focus of this class, though any subject is acceptable. This is the place to learn classic realism. Students will progress from black and white charcoal pencil drawing to painting in color, depending on skill level. Bring a clear, uncomplicated, sharp black and white photo of a head, at least 5” x 7”, to begin. A color photo 5” x 7” or larger will be needed as the student progresses.

6 weeks: June 24 – July 29    10 am–1 pm

Instructor: Grace Cole

Fee: $130 non-members/$125 members

Pastel

Soft pastel is probably the most sensual art medium.  Students will create art with a light catching velvety surface using sticks made of pure pigment.  Intense or subtle, pastel is always striking.  Learn classic techniques and “tricks” from a trained instructor.  Composition, perspective, color, depth of field, contrast, and more will also be addressed.
